In November 2011 one of the glitziest events in the wine trade calendar took place; the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) banquet. Held in the historic setting of the Guildhall in the heart of the City, the competition celebrates producers, retailers, and individuals across the industry.
Wines from Rioja attended to present the trophy for brand new category "Best Rioja wine". Barón de Ley was awarded the trophy for its Gran Reserva 2004. The 2001 vintage of this wine is still available from Waitrose - the vintage was decreed "excellent" by the Consejo Regulador, so why not give this a try, and watch this space for the trophy-winning 2004 vintage!
