Every September in Logroňo, the capital of La Rioja, the Fiestas de San Mateo are held to celebrate the start of the Rioja wine harvest. Taking place this year from September 20th – 25th, the Harvest Festival will see Rioja wine flowing by the gallon throughout the city and it will even include fountains filled with Rioja wine like the one above. Local traditions also take place throughout the festival including grape stomping, bull running, parades, fireworks and plenty of eating and drinking of regional cuisine and Rioja wine.
If you’re thinking of visiting La Rioja, we thoroughly recommend going for the Fiestas de San Mateo and catching the last of the summer sun. Why not take a look at the ‘visiting Rioja’ section of our website for more travel inspiration - http://uk.riojawine.com/en/234-visiting-rioja.html
