Highlights from our Rioja wine masterclasses with Laura Clay and Natasha Hughes HW at Adnams
This autumn, 2015’s winning Shop Rioja retailer, Adnams, opened its doors to over 60 wine-keen guests for two Rioja tasting sessions. Guests at the Bury St Edmunds masterclass, hosted by Natasha Hughes MW, sipped their way through eight different Riojas in a range of styles – from zingy Tempranillo Blanco right through to deep and woody Gran Reserva.
Natasha guided customers through the different grapes , regions and the history of Rioja. The wines were accompanied by a selection of Spanish cheeses and charcuterie and at the end of the evening the floor was opened for questions and discussion about Spain’s best-known fine wine region.
At Adnams’ sold-out tasting in Saffron Walden, Laura Clay shared her enthusiasm and knowledge of the region with a captive audience. Customers explored the different ageing classifications in Rioja, the effects of barrel ageing on both white and red wines and what makes Rioja such a special place for wine production. Wines, which included both an organic and rosé Rioja, were accompanied by tapas dishes matched to the flight of wines.
Richard Sugar, manager of Adnams Saffron Walden, said ‘the Rioja masterclass was really successful and guests were excited to taste and discuss a diverse range of Rioja wines’
