Rioja Tapas Fantasticas! 
It’s not long until we’ll be opening the doors of our award winning festival Rioja Tapas Fantasticas! In fact it’s taking place in two weeks on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June at the fantastic location of Potters Fields Park, overlooked by the magnificent backdrop of Tower Bridge. Over the two day festival you’ll see many amazing wineries and restaurants offering authentic Spanish dishes along with the very best Rioja wines!

The festival is inspired by Calle Laurel, the renowned tapas crawl in the heart of Rioja. Every weekend, Calle Laurel sees people wandering from bar to bar, enjoying a different tapa accompanied by a glass of Rioja, and this year you will be able to give it a try for yourself at Rioja Tapas Fantasticas!

Also new to this year’s festival is ‘Food Painting’; a live creation of ‘à la carte’ paintings devised from edible paints made up of Rioja wine and seasonal produce. Pairing art and gastronomy, renowned Spanish artists Carlos Corres and Carlos Lopez Garrido will be painting London landmarks onto canvas, plates and tablecloths on both Saturday and Sunday. We’re delighted to announce our second seasonal tasting at Cambridge Wine Merchants later this month. The event will see Joe Wadsack present Rioja wines that are perfect for summer drinking, as well as delicious tapas served. It’s sure to be a fiesta filled atmosphere!

José recipes


José Pizarro will be joining us at Rioja Tapas Fantasticas and showcasing some of his amazing recipes live on stage while Olly Smith gives his wine recommendations to match. If you fancy trying to create one of José’s delicious recipes, look no further as here is the recipe for ‘Prawn with Mushrooms and Jamon Ibérico’, perfect to match with a crisp white Rioja on a summer's day!

Prawns with Mushrooms and Jamón Ibérico

Serves 2
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper
6 prawns, shelled but with tail and head left on
100g flat mushrooms, diced
1 small clove of garlic, sliced
1 pinch of dry chilli flakes
75ml fish stock
25g cured ham - preferably Ibérico - diced
1 tbsp chopped flat parsley
Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over a medium heat. Season the prawns with salt and pepper and place in the pan. Cook on each side for 1 minute. Take out the pan and reserve. Place the mushrooms in the pan and cook for 1 minute or until golden brown. Put the prawns back in the pan with the mushrooms, add the garlic and cook until garlic starts to brown. Add the chilli and the stock and cook until the stock is reduced by half. Scatter the parsley and the ham on top and serve on two warmed plates.
