Spring has arrived! 

With warmer temperatures on the way, flowers blooming and the birds singing, what better way to toast the start of spring than with a fresh, light recipe and glass of chilled white Rioja wine? We've got a delicious wine and food matching suggestion, Rioja and Tapas guide and some exciting events to look forward to this summer!  


Summer of Tapas Fantasticas 


We are very excited to announce that this summer, the Rioja Tapas Fantasticas festival is going on a tour across the UK. We will be spreading the Spanish spirit with our travelling tapas bar serving a selection of authentic tapas and delicious Rioja wines throughout the summer in a city near you.

The Summer of Tapas Fantasticas will kick off at Taste of Dublin from 11th - 14th June. From here it will be travelling across the country to Bristol Foodies from 26th - 28th June and then it’s on to the next stop, Edinburgh Foodies 7th - 9th August.  On the last leg of its journey, the tour will finish at Oxford South Foodies for the August bank holiday weekend (29th - 31st August). 

We will be announcing further event and ticket information soon so please keep an eye on our website. 




Taste Tapas Fantasticas


The Summer of Tapas Fantasticas doesn’t stop there - Taste Tapas Fantasticas is back by popular demand! This year Wines from Rioja will be teaming up with some of your favourite restaurants to offer some great deals, discounts and promotions on some delicious dishes and Rioja wines. We will be announcing further information soon so please keep an eye on our website. 




Tapas Fantasticas Sessions 


We were excited to announce that Prohibition Wines and Laithwaite's won the prize of Rioja Retailers of the Year in for their passion and enthusiasm for Spain’s flagship wine region. We will be working with both retailers to host a series of fun and informal Rioja and tapas nights led by lively and enthusiastic Rioja experts. Toast the start of Spring 



With the sun shining, flowers blooming and blossom appearing on the trees, we’re toasting the start of spring with this delicious, fresh and light spring vegetable risotto – the perfect dish for a sunny, warm evening in the garden.
Serve with a glass of barrel Fermented White Rioja. 

Serves four

  • 50g butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 320g risotto rice
  • 1 litre hot vegetable stock
  • 75g broad beans
  • 75g peas, thawed if frozen
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh mint
  • 2 tbsp freshly grated parmesan
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

1. Heat half the butter and the oil in a large, heavy based saucepan. Add the onion and garlic and cook over a gentle heat for 3-5 minutes, until softened, but not coloured. Add the rice and stir to coat in the butter and oil.

2. Add a ladle full of the hot stock and stir to combine with the rice. Simmer until almost all the liquid has been absorbed. Continue adding the stock in this way until you have about a ladle full left. Stir in the broad beans and peas and the remaining stock. Continue cooking until the vegetables are tender and the rice is tender and creamy. Stir in the parmesan, remaining butter and mint and serve straight away.

Cooks tip: If you're using fresh peas and broad beans, blanch them for a minute in boiling salted water before adding them to the risotto.

New British Airways flight to Bilbao 

British Airways has just launched a new flight path from London to Bilbao - the heart of the Rioja region. To celebrate, we've teamed up with the airline to offer people travelling from Terminal 5 the opportunity to sample a selection of Rioja wine. Sampling will be taking place from 15th - 29th May at British Airways North Lounge.
